A flood alert has been issued for West Cornwall Rivers following heavy rainfall over the last couple of days.

The Gov.uk flood information service said that flooding is possible over the next four days from today Saturday 30th through to Tuesday 2nd February.

Porthleven Harbour was also closed off this afternoon after people were seen getting to close to the waves.

The alert on the flood information service reads:

"High spring tides will combine with large offshore waves in excess of 2 metres, together with Force 6 to occasionally Force 7 easterly winds.

"This may cause localised wave overtopping of defences and quaysides and spray in exposed coastal areas. Peak water levels may be up to 300mm higher than published tides.

"People are advised to stay away from risk areas and take care next to the coast."
