Plans have been knocked back to redevelop the former site of Mullion Gallery, it was revealed this week.

Submitted by a Mr Thornton of Kugger, the plans would have seen the former Mullion Gallery building, on Nansmellyon Road, demolished and 3 family homes built.

The proposal was refused due to the scale, massing, and design.

The development originally came to light in 2019, with the plans being amended, but a final decision was made this week.

In conclusion, the planning officer said it would:

"Result in an inappropriate form of development that, would fail to respect the scale, character, and appearance of the surrounding area and hence not respect local distinctiveness."

The plans were also met with opposition by local residents with one saying:

"The local plan states that developments should work within and enhance its landscape, sadly these proposals are overbearing for the small site in a rural community and risk setting a president for other landowners in Mullion to squeeze 3 houses into very small spaces and on this basis alone should be declined."

A second added:

"The proposed dwellings are crammed into the site with little outdoor space and constitute an overdevelopment of this site."

A third commented:

"I attended the Parish Council meeting and it was unanimously voted not to approve this application, with overdevelopment being the main points raised by councillors, the height of the proposals.

"On top of that, there is a lack of amenities for the proposed houses including very small garden space, no space for drying clothes and safety surrounding the road."
