A fundraiser has been set up for a Helston family and their baby boy Jaxon.

The community has rallied behind a local family and their baby boy who is currently in St Michael's Hospital, Bristol with a heart condition.

Courtney and Michael's lives were turned upside down when they were told their little boy had issues with his heart.

Jaxon was born on the 13th of October at 9:31am at St Michael's Hospital with congenital heart disease and bilateral talipes.

The day Jaxon was born the doctors had to take him straight to intensive care.

Jaxon was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. Hypoplastic left heart syndrome is a heart disease where the left ventricle of the heart, which is the main pumping chamber, is critically underdeveloped (too small).

Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome is a rare problem that occurs in approximately 1 in 5,000 babies.

Living in Helston and having to switch their time between Bristol is a tough ask for the two parents.

Michael has just opened his new taxi business, 'Mike's Taxi Helston', and is working hard to balance everything so that he can be with his other children as well as their new son.

He is also needing to work a day when he can so that they are able to survive whilst he is home for the weekend. As well as himself and Courtney while they are in Bristol.

A fundraiser was set up on behalf of Courtney and Michael which has raised nearly £3,000.

The fundraiser reads:

"Funds are tight for them right now. They miss their children but cannot afford to be travelling to and from Bristol every weekend due to Michael having to take time off work when he's self-employed. The children aren't allowed up to stay with them due to COVID restrictions in place as well."

The funds will go towards easing the strain on the family, and potentially booking a hotel for the children to go up to Bristol for a weekend to spend time together as a family.
