Big changes for The Beehive in Helston as pub undergoes refurbishment

Helston pub, The Beehive is stepping away from the late-night bar scene residents have always known undergoing a full refurbishment.

The pub, based on Coinagehall Street, closed on the 29th September after the government introduced the 10pm restriction meaning it wasn't possible for a late-night bar style to continue.

However, this presented a new opportunity for Neal and the team to give the pub a refurbishment and a change of image.

Nub News caught up with owner Neal Hicks on what is new at The Beehive, he said:

"When the 10 o'clock restriction was introduced our last day of trading was September 29th. The front of the pub was all blacked out and a complete redecoration was needed.

"We had to go to a daytime/early evening pub and I think just getting the lighting, decor, heating and the colours right was key to create a better ambience and make the place more welcoming."

Neal's ambition for years was to always have a late-night bar and said it was "very difficult" to step away from what he loves.

He has faced a fair amount of challenges in his time at The Beehive fighting his corner after noise complaints.

Neal continued:

"When we reintroduced the 3am licence people absolutely loved it, we were the only pub in Helston open after 1am.

"We fought hard to maintain our licence to keep us open."

The Beehive has a new image and Neal is pushing to change opinions of the place, with lots of promotion on social media, showing pictures of the changes in the pub.

As the town looks ahead to its late-night shopping event on the 18th December with lots of businesses getting involved, The Beehive will be offering hot mulled wine, somewhere for shoppers to stop and grab a drink whilst shopping.

"We want people to come in and have a drink, relax, enjoy the ambience and we will show that we are abiding by all the covid rules," he added.
