This morning (29th) was an exciting one for the team behind Hellys Tearoom in Helston after opening the doors for the first time this year.

The tearoom based on Meneage Street shut when the second lockdown was announced and has not welcomed customers in since.

Owners Lee and Lisa Spicer also run a second tearoom in Penzance which has outdoor seating, meaning it was more covid friendly.

With staff self-isolating, the smaller space, and struggling to find new recruits, the decision was made to move the remaining staff over to help in Penzance which needed more hands as it was busier.

Opening the doors this morning Lee and Lisa said they were "strangely nervous" but excited as they find their feet again after a long time away.

The pair told Nub News:

"We closed in January and various factors have stopped us from reopening. Now we feel we can reopen and we are really excited to be able to get back to it.

"In the past, we have been the hub of the community and getting people back into the high street, with people coming to meet here, I am hoping over time people will feel more confident and we can get back to our own ways."

As well as the long-awaited reopening Lee and Lisa have tweaked the menu slightly, bigger breakfast variations, and still keeping it all healthy with no frying involved.

Pancakes have been added to the menu, granola bowls, eggs benedict, eggs florentine, and shakshouka. Not much has changed to the lunches but they will be based around quiches and salads, with the usual cakes and cream teas.

Lee added:

"We are excited, it is a pretty much identical menu to the one we do in Penzance so we know it inside out, more artwork and local produce at the back of the tearoom in the lead up to Christmas as well."

The tearoom will be open Wednesday to Saturday, from 9:30am to 2pm, with booking advisable.
