In a shocking announcement this evening it was revealed that the Helston Christmas Lights are "highly unlikely" to go up this year.

The latest update comes as the country enters lockdown and makes it difficult for the team to socially distance whilst doing the lights.

A couple of weeks ago we brought you the news that the lights would be going up but due to the second lockdown that now appears to be put in doubt.

Rob Williams said:

"We are all volunteers from different households and the covid rules state that we shouldn't mix with others. In addition to this, it will be very difficult for us to socially distance whilst putting the lights up, and touch transmission will be almost impossible to avoid too.

"We will review this early in December if/when the lockdown is lifted, but for now it's looking like our streets will, unfortunately, be in darkness during the forthcoming festive period.

"We've got great plans for 2021 but for now we hope you all understand the difficult situation that we are in."
