Vauxhall Mokka-e Review

By Ginny Buckley - Motoring Correspondent

Vauxhall's Mokka has gone from being barely-palatable to a gourmet delight. It's stylish, good to drive and pretty efficient too.

Vauxhall is making serious headway in its drive to electrify its range. The battery-powered Corsa-e is one the UK's best-selling and most affordable small electric cars, while the Mokka-e has been designed cater for buyers who need a little more space and demand a lot more style.

Looks are always a question of personal taste of course, but there is no doubt that the new Mokka is now a much more interesting car to look at. If you go for the electric version (Vauxhall offers the Mokka with a traditional petrol or diesel engine as well), you'll get a 50kWh battery and a motor which produces around 134bhp. That's actually more powerful than the petrol or diesel versions and is about the same as you'd expect from something like a 1.6-litre engine in the old model.

Britain's electric car infrastructure is failing to grow at the same rate as sales of new EVs

Britain's electric car infrastructure is failing to grow at the same rate as sales of new EVs, according to new analysis by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). The trade organisation has revealed that the ratio of vehicle chargepoints to plug-in cars deteriorated by -31% during 2020.

The research shows that at the end of 2019, 11 plug-in vehicles potentially shared a standard public chargepoint capable of charging both battery electric (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs). In contrast, at the end of 2020, the ratio had fallen to one charger for every 16 plug-ins.

Not only does the EQS redefine the luxury electric car, but it shows an exciting new direction for Mercedes.

Mercedes has flirted with electric cars before, but its efforts have always been limited to putting a battery and motor in a body which was designed for a petrol or diesel. That's not good enough for the flagship of the range though. Buyers spending six figures don't expect compromises.

So for the first time Mercedes is using a platform specially developed to be pure electric.
